Why Teacup Mini Goldendoodles Aren’t Always a Good Idea (And What We Recommend Instead)

What’s All the Buzz About Micro and Teacup Mini Goldendoodles?

If you’ve been on TikTok, Instagram, or browsing Google lately, you’ve probably seen the rise in searches for micro or teacup mini Goldendoodles. These pint-sized pups (usually under 15 lbs) are gaining attention in cities like Seattle, Los Angeles, and Austin, where people are looking for small dogs that fit the apartment lifestyle.

But smaller doesn’t always mean better.

Why We Don’t Breed Teacup or Micro Doodles

While we understand the appeal of tiny Goldendoodles, we’ve chosen not to breed teacup or micro sizes for important reasons:

1. Too Much Poodle:

Teacups often have 75% or more Poodle genes, which increases energy, anxiety, and coat maintenance—making them less beginner-friendly.

2. Not Kid-Proof:

Their tiny size makes them fragile and more prone to injury, especially in homes with toddlers or young children.

3. Health Concerns:

Extreme miniaturization can lead to common issues like dental crowding, luxating patellas, and low blood sugar.

4. Less Balanced Temperament:

We breed for the calm, confident personality that comes from a 50/50 Golden Retriever to Poodle cross. That balance gets lost when breeders go too small.

Why Our 25–30 lb Mini Goldendoodles Are the Sweet Spot

At Power Goldendoodles, our Mini Goldendoodles average 25 lbs (females) and 30 lbs (males)—and there’s a reason we stick to that size:

  • Perfect for City Life: Still small enough for condos or apartments in Boise, San Diego, or Dallas.

  • Sturdy & Safe: Big enough to play with children without risk of injury.

  • Social & Easygoing: Our F1 English Mini Goldendoodles are calm, loving, and gentle—even in busy homes.

  • Low Shedding: Ideal coats for families with allergies or who just don’t want dog hair everywhere.

Don’t Fall for the Trend—Choose a Pup You Can Grow With

If you’re in a high-density urban area, you might think teacup is your only option. But many of our families live in apartments and townhomes and still do great with a 25–30 lb Doodle. They’re small enough for tight spaces—but big enough to thrive.

We breed for health, temperament, and real-life family compatibility, not for social media likes.
